Go Bo!
04.20.05 (11:00 pm)   [edit]
I had never watched an entire episode of American Idol until I saw it with my aunt Jocelyn while visiting her in North Carolina a couple weeks ago. She kept saying "There's this cute guy named Bo Bice on there - you're gonna love him! He's a Southern boy with long hair..."

I was like "Yeah yeah, okay." But then I saw him, and she was totally right. I had a crush immediately. I was dumbfounded because he looks SO much like Skynyrd's first singer, Ronnie Van Zant. I mean, they could totally be brothers: the long hair, similar face, same little patch of hair under the chin, same singing style... Very similar voice. He even walks around the stage while carrying the entire microphone base, like all the Van Zants do. So I thought, "Okay, long-haired Southern guy from Alabama that looks and sounds like Ronnie, not bad. I just might enjoy this show."

Then... he sang Freebird. Now... I'm head-over-heels.

The other contestants aren't bad, but I have no interest in them. I mean, they all sound somewhat the same to me. Plus, I don't like modern music (except for some country), so I just can't get into them. But Bo is different, he's an old-fashioned rocker whom you can tell is being himself and just having fun, and I really like that. He currently has a band called Sugar Money. I didn't know there were many, if any, good Southern rock bands nowadays (young, new ones, I mean), but they sound pretty good. Their song "Hold On" reminds me of both "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Trust", by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Bo's the only reason I'll be watching Idol. And he looks like Ronnie. Ahem.

Holy crap! I thought "Hold On" was gonna bust into "Sweet Home" at any second! I mean, some of the rifs are taken right from that song. And, yes, he does look a great deal like Ronnie...only kinda cute'n'young'n'stuff. Yeah. :o)

I thunk that too! I really like the tune, and their style. Gonna buy their album I think.

Bo and Ronnie are actually the same exact age in those pictures - Ronnie's the dead Van Zant brother, he was only 29 :-/
