Blues Brothers at Universal Studios
01.07.07 (3:01 am)   [edit]
All right, now that I've finally gotten a couple of the necessary photos from Darrell, I figured it's about time I write about this. It'll sure enlighten you as to why I'm on such a Blues Brothers/Dan Aykroyd kick at the moment!!!

We went to Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida, in the beginning of December with Darrell, Caroline, and her boyfriend Bob. The first day we went to Universal, just Darrell was with us, and it was a Friday. They've got a few different sets of guys that do the little Blues Brothers concerts there, but OMG. The guys that were there on Friday were absolutely amazing. Seriously, they looked the part, they sang (and played harmonica) VERY well, they acted like the real Blues Brothers, and heck. They even SOUNDED like them, in not just singing but talking normally as well.

We first got to the concert area around... probably 2:00pm. They'd just finished up a concert and were posing for pictures in front of the BluesMobile. So I ran up and took a picture with them; as I came up, "Jake" saw my shirt and said, "That's a nice Lynyrd Skynyrd shirt you've got there. That's some great Southern rock!!". Then after we took the picture, "Elwood" turned to me and touched the brim of his hat while saying, "Have a good day, Ma'am." Okay. I just about passed out right then and there. He sounded EXACTLY like Dan Aykroyd - I couldn't believe it! I just gaped at him for a moment before saying, "Uh...YEAH!! You too, Elwood, thanks!" He sure was cute. Dad later took a picture with them as well (while Elwood and the saxophonist were jamming together), and I got another good one sitting on the BluesMobile.

We caught the next concert at 2:45pm after having gone on The Mummy ride... and they kicked serious butt. I honestly think they were far better than some big-named concerts I've been to. And since it was right before Christmas, they holidayed up the songs and their entire act quite a bit. They played a couple Christmas songs, and while Elwood was singing "Blue Christmas", Jake pulled a trash can out from the corner and started setting up a little fake Christmas tree. As Elwood sang, "...decorations of red on a green Christmas tree...", Jake hung red packs of cigarettes on the tree. He then wrapped toilet paper around it as garland... and topped it off with a crushed beer can. I was CRACKING up. Then, they exchanged Christmas gifts. They both handed each other a small packet... and what was it? Sunglasses. They turned around, took their sunglasses off, put the new ones on, and turned back towards the audience as if saying, "Whaddaya think?" Ha!

They then started my favorite Blues Brothers song, "Soul Man". Except, they'd changed the lyrics for the holidays and it was now "Snow Man". Heh. They danced exactly as Aykroyd and Belushi did in the "Soul Man" video - it was HYSTERICAL! I couldn't believe how good they were.

They also had a black woman who played sort of an Aretha Franklin part - she was really, really good. As she was singing a Christmas song, Jake and Elwood were off to the side putting Santa hats on. Then Elwood came trotting down the stairs and grabbed me by the hand and pulled me up there with him. Jake was sitting on the steps wearing a Santa beard, gesturing for me to take a seat on his knee. I did, and he asked, "Have you been a naughty girl this year?" I said, "YESSSSS!" Meanwhile, Elwood was shoving a Santa hat on my head (which said "Princess" on the front) and throwing fake snow on me. Jake then said something else and Elwood yanked the hat off my head and pitched more snow on my head. I wish I could remember what Jake said... I was too focused on the fact that I was SITTING in Jake's LAP with Elwood standing right behind me... OMG. I dunno how I survived! I suppose I could've feigned passing out so that they would've have to "resuscitate" me... heh... but anyway. Thankfully, Darrell got a great shot of me up there with them.

After they finished up and drove off in the BluesMobile, we headed across the street to the little Irish resturaunt and ate lunch, then came back out just in time for the 4:00pm concert. They were awesome the second time, too!

We caught the Blues Brothers act again on Saturday, but they had a different pair of guys there who weren't nearly as good. I mean, they weren't BAD, but they didn't look so much the part, and just weren't as... enthusiastic and fun. I didn't get any pictures of them... I was too spoiled by the previous guys! Too bad Caroline and Bob couldn't have been there on Friday. Hopefully we'll see those guys again next time. I wish I could find out who they really are - I'd love to compliment them and tell them to KEEP IT UP, you're awesome, man!

~*~

When we got home, I was inspired to make my own little Blues Brothers Christmas tree. Dad got me a mini tree from the dollar store, then I slapped a couple cigarette boxes on it, wrapped it with toilet paper, and stuck a crushed beer can on top. It's a little small, but I like it! I was hoping to put my Blues Brothers sunglasses on it as well, but it looked too crowded. Some time soon, I'll post a bunch of the other Universal pictures on D&D . I've still got to put some from Israel on there... I've got my work cut out for me. I took over 600 in Israel, and I'm only gonna pick about thirty of the best ones to put on the site. It's just a matter of making myself get crackin'! Anyway, here's my little tree.

They're awesome aren't they?? And what gets me (reguarding the Belushi and Aykroyd) is that they were both AMATUERS. Amatuer dancers, amatuer singers - but they really pulled it off and I'd rather watch/listen to them than many professionals.

I WILL get my galleries up...just gimme a few months. LOL.

OMG. One of the comments on YouTube was "with dancing like that, how did Dan Aykroyd ever get fat?" LOL! You looked like you had a great time. I'm so glad. :o)

I actually did manage to get some pics from Orlando on the site, but the page isn't visible yet - I'm not done with it. Maybe in a couple months...LOL.
