New hatband, new hat
03.27.06 (2:51 am)   [edit]
I got a new black straw cowgirl hat from Cracker Barrel while we were in Orlando - I'd forgotten to bring one and I needed it to shield my face from the sun on the second day. I had burned a bit on the first day. Besides that... I just wanted a new hat! I have a white one and a brown one (which is still my favorite), and now I've got a black one. It's a bit plain though. There's a TINY silver concho on the front with a strange little "sun" design that's way too... girly. It just needs to be spiced up a bit.

I went on eBay searching for hatbands and found several nice ones but ultimately decided on this one. It's leather and has 10 nickel-finished, 1-inch, Western "star" conchos on it. I found another one that I really liked made out of black and white python skin, but I really wanted the conchos. I also found an awesome band made out of Indian bonepipe beads, but again... I wanted the conchos. They say it'll look "Great on any hat!", and will also fit any hat, so I thought, what the hey! $15 even! And for a genuine leather hatband (with or without the awesome conchos), that's dirt cheap!

Here's a picture of a different hat (which I'm not very fond of, mine looks nothing like this) with the hatband on it, as well as a closeup of the hatband by itself.

My straw hat is very similar to this one (I couldn't find a picture of mine), except that the straw weave isn't as pronounced (it looks smoother).

Oh Hey, that reminds me of my straw hat I bought in Az for DBI to prevent him from being severely burnt - so *thats* what you do with the cord, cool!

Love the belt-like hatbands too :D

It's also good for your 'strangling on the fly' needs! :o)

Normally the cord is to go around your chin if it's in danger of blowing off (such as if you're riding a horse or something, or, riding the Jurassic Park ride as I was LOL), but that's where most people put it, tucked around the back!
