01.25.06 (3:10 am)   [edit]
Why is it that when you're sick (or just getting over being sick), you always feel the worst at night? Of course you can't sleep at all, but then you feel better when morning comes around and can sleep all the live-long day. What's up with that? Why can't it be the other way around - feel crappy during the day, then feel great at night and get some sleep then? Argh. I'm not sick any more, but I still have a terrible sinus infection. The sinus pressure has been unbearable for the past three nights (mainly in my left cheek) - I've been awake all night every night, putting Vick's vapor rub all over me, downing all kinds of sinus headache medications, drinking hot green tea, and inhaling steam over a hot sink with a towel over my head. Yet, I've been sleeping all day without problem.

So, of course, being up all night, I've had absolutely nothing to do but fiddle around on the computer. Here are the fruits of my boredom:

Gibson Explorer  Gibson Indian  Rickey Medlocke

Johnny Van Zant  Lynyrd Skynyrd  Ronnie Van Zant
Click images to enlarge, or right-click and "Save Target As..."

I've noticed how my style of making wallpapers tends to change every time I discover something new; my favorite style for the past half year or so has been a grungy effect. I love dirt, imperfections, newsprint, dirty brushes, and military/typewriter text (as in the ones of Ronnie, Johnny, and Rickey). I also dig the soft, glowing look, as in the one of the Explorer. I'll upload all of these to Daft & Demented as soon as I get the chance.

OH, and... I'm really, really, REALLY excited because this Sunday... WE'RE GONNA SEE VAN ZANT AT THE KISS COUNTRY CHILI COOKOFF!!!!!!!!!!! *FAINTS DEAD*
*recovers* Ahem...yeah. Anyway. Not only are Van Zant gonna be there, but also Gretchen Wilson (love her), Keith Urban, Trick Pony, and Craig Morgan. Video cameras aren't allowed, but I'm sure regular cameras are, so I'll be sure to take a ton of pictures.

I'm stoked.

the tonyjohnson one is a new station I believe. One that has been around awile that I think is cool is http://www.freebirdradio.com/hiro/engmain_right.html The guy who runs this station is named Hiro.It originates from Japan and I think it is cool that they take interest in our music. It's cool to listen to their interpretation of our language.Try to drop them a line if you can sometime as they could use the support.Him and his wife(Chihina)are very friendly people and have a feature that I think you will like!.They have a very extensive catalouge of Skynyrd songs and play them on demend.Yep,.. Just scroll down on the home page to... Now You Can Request Songs! Click Here!....And follow the steps. They are first come first served and make's a list of all the upcoming requested songs for you to see.............LaterFloridaGater...............GB............Michael

Hi Mal,I have decided to wear my black shirt that has in the front over the left breast pocket a small rebel flag that says "The Van Zants-Ronnie Donnie Johnny". On the back is a giant rebel flag and above it says "VZ".In the middle of the big flag is a small frame with a pic of Marion and Lacy in it.And below the flag it says..."Keep On Supporting Southern Rock And Roll".I will also have a Green baseball cap on.Janet will have a Black shirt as well with(front)38 Special and a picture of the guys across it in blue. And on the back is a giant 38 that is red white and blue flag.At the bottom of the 38 flag says "Tour 2000 USA".We both have brown hair(hers is long and mine is short) but mine is mostly grey and have a short beard.Hope we see you or you spot us one.We are gonna get thier as early as we can(hope between 700-900).I am gonna park at my mom's house and she will give us a lift over to the park.Though I told her we can walk the rest of the way but she insists that she drop us off.She lives at around Taft and 110th ave which is only like 10 blocks from the park(my childhood home). But ya dont argue with mama right?Right. You are welcome to park there too if you and your dad want to.I just have to let mom and dad know.Well, talk to ya soon..............GB..............Michael

Hey Michael!!!!!

"You Can Kiss My Country A*s" is by Rhett Akins! (I had to look that up!) I love that song. I also love Ray Scott's "My Kind of Music" - have you heard that one? you'd like it!

Ohh, oh wait. ........LOOOOK UNTOO MY EYYYES!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL ~*NOT*~ GET SICK! YOU WILL ~*NOT*~ CATCH IT!!!! *waves a brightly colored spinning hypnotic pinwheel thing in front of Michael's face* BEEELIEVE ME THAT YOU WILL NOT GET SICK!!!!

Heee heeee! I can tell war stories with your wife LOL! I'm actually feeling better at the moment, thank the Lord! I hope she is too. And your mom! Hopefully our voices will be all right to scream for Johnny and Donnie!!!

Glad you dig the wallpaper! The Explorer I used is very similar to Allen's and Rickey's, but theirs' have the.... what's that thing called... The stick thing that Rick broke off at the end of Freebird on the Vicious Cycle DVD... Quiver? quiver stick? Something like that! I'd love to see those pictures!! To get them in the computer you'd need to get a scanner - you can get them for fairly cheap now; mine's a Hewlett Packard and I definitely recommend it, they've got some great scanners at reasonable prices.

I'll check out those radio stations once my super-duper uber-awesome (I hope) Earthlink DSL gets here! Having more trouble with the connection today. I am SO danged tired of this crap. I'd like to take whoever's in charge of Comcast, shove a grenade down their throat and throw 'em to the gators.

Yeah.....Um................ANYWAY.

Sounds good! Glad you got those tickets - I'll tell Dad about parking at your Mom's and see what he wants to do - you think parking's gonna be real tough at the park itself? I've got the same 38 shirt your wife has!!

Here's a picture of me and Dad (his name is Mark, btw) - I'll be wearing this same shirt with jeans. I'm sure Dad will be wearing that Skynyrd hat. My shirt has the Skynyrd logo with a guitar stalk breaking through a steer skull on the back.

Hey I have an idea - do you guys have a cell phone? We have one - if you could email me and I can give the number to you, one of us can call the other around 8, that sound good? I don't wanna post the number here for everybody to see. My email address is pamela_gratz@yahoo.com.

I'm gettin' more excited too!! HOLY CATS WE'RE GONNA SEE JOHNNY AND DONNIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Later Gater and God Bless you guys! see y'all soon.

Hi Mal,Yep I heard the Ray Scott song today(My Kind of Music). It's my kinda song and I'd like to hear it again.Kiss is playin some good stuff now a days.Yesterday around lunch time they played some Hank Jr followed by Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama. And later found that they also have some Outlaws now in thier playlist!Awesome!Just more proof of that very thin line that exists between the two genre's now a days.I took your advice as well and checked out the Gretchen 99.9 that you suggested and it rocks!I checked out the whole site and took that survey that they have on there where ya rate the songs that are on their current playlist. And when you take the survey your name gets registered to possible win chili-cookoff tickets for next year!I believe they give out quite a few tickets from that throughout the year. And BTW-I got that concert schedule from the wkis.com/ web site as well.I do have a bit of a sore throat today. But,Thank you for the hypnosis session! I really do believe that it has helped me from catching it full on...HeHe...To bad that does'nt really work.... and all I can do is keep my faith and leave it with god.I've taken all the preventative measures and it's all in his hands at this point.I am gonna stay home and rest all day today.Mom and Janet are both recovering and doing well.I know a little about the guitar and have been playin ever since the first time I saw Allen and Gary doing it so effortlessly. So I can tell ya a little bit about that guitar hardware you were talkin about. It is called technically a tremelo or tremelo bar. Most pickers just call them Whammy bars as to speak of all of them in general cause different companies have thier own pattents and have some of thier own names for them(bigsby etc). But genarally you hear them refered to as a tremelo or whammy bar.I think I may have heard a guy call it a wha-wha bar once, but,a wha-wha is actually a pedal that sits on the floor and is played with your foot.OK!,Anyway, enough of that.I will look into purchasing a scanner(thanks for the advice)and also have to have some of my boxes of Skynyrd memorabilia sent to me.It is all in a safe storage space with a good old friend that I can trust.I have to send money to have it all shipped to me.I cant wait to get my hands on all my old stuff!!It has been a while and when I left the stuff it was about 6-7 years ago and was way before I had a computer and I cant wait to get a lot of it on to the internet and share it with everybody.I would never sell anything or put the stuff on e-bay or anything like that.I have been known to give stuff away to close friends(other die-hard fans).Like stuff that I have doubles of.I would mostly like to set up a place were people can just come and take a look at all the stuff...I hear ya about the fools over at comcast and I will never regret the day I parted ways with them and I'm sure you will too.Check out Hiro if ya can some time and give a little support. They really try hard.As far as parking goes,It is not a problem it just takes a little longer to get in than being on foot.COOL!!VanZant just came on the t.v.!"Nobody gonna tell me what to do"!Sing along!OK,I'm back, had to check that one out. Thanks for the pick of you and dad.I dont think we will have any problem finding you folks.Or you finding us one.And yes it would be a good idea for us to exchange cell numbers(e-mail) just in case.It is now 10:00 am and Gretchen is playin on kiss!Cool...Nice way to end this post....Only 3 days to go....Sing it Gretchen(and Merle too)..............Talk to ya soon and God Bless.............Michael

It sure would be nice to go to Cracker Barrel before the show on Sunday. But the problem I will more that likely run into would be getting Mom Dad and my Wife Janet up early enough to go.I am a morning person totally, but, I stand alone in this most of the time!I would also think that a lot of people are having the same idea seeing that CB(cracker barrel) is so close to CB (smith park).Could be very crowded!I will have to think about this one over the next couple of days..........God Bless............Michael...............P.S.The Barrel is on 75 and Sheridan,...but you probably already knew that.

Michael! Where to start... lots of comments to catch up on here! First off, GREAT meeting you and Janet at the concert, had an awesome time!!!

KISS certainly is playing good stuff nowadays!! They sometimes play Marshall Tucker and Charlie Daniels too, it's awesome! I'd love to see ol' Charlie in Naples, but I asked Dad and he slumped his shoulders and said "...wait until they come closer." LOL He doesn't feel like driving right now I guess. He doesn't like going across the state very much! I'm sorry we missed the show at the Ford Amphitheatre, good gosh that sounds like it would've been AWESOME! Ray Scott was there!! Montgomery Gentry too!

Thanks for clearing me up on the "whammy bar"!! I wonder where I heard it called a "quiver" before...

Reguarding the videos, the only ones I've seen at Freebird The Movie, part of the tribute tour, parts of Lyve From Steel Town, and the Vicious Cycle DVD of course!

(OMG WE SAW DONNIE AND JOHNNY.)
