Moose.

Everybody gets so upset with my Dad, Darrell, and relatives for calling me "Moose", I don't get what the big deal is?? It's been my nickname for over 8 years and I love it. I like it when people call me that. I even TELL the people that and they still don't like it. Pffft.

Today, Dad ate at a little resturaunt during his work break. They know one of the waitresses that works there, D., she's a sweetheart and I love her, but she gives them flak every single time they refer to me as "The Moose". I know she means well, but how many times do we gotta tell her that I like it? If it offended me, trust me they'd know about it and never call me that again.

People started calling me "Moose" back when I was thin, even. The reason I got the nickname is because I'm so tall. I'm now 5'11", but even back when I was about 12 or 13, I was at least 5'6". Besides, moose aren't fat..?? They're tall, strong, muscular, and I think they're absolutely beautiful. So graceful and majestic! I know I'm neither of those....heh....but still!

I can't see why being called "Moose&q uot; is such a bad thing. If they called me "Cow" or "Hippo", then I guess there'd be reason to worry. Get it through your heads people - I'm THE Moose and I wouldn't have it any other way! Most of my relatives all understand. My grandmother and aunts and uncles and cousins all buy me stuffed mooses and anything else to do with moose. I also have quite a few reindeer, as I'm closely related to them. Heh.

Well I guess if that's what you want to be called then everybody should respect that. One thing about nicknames though,...The longer you have it,the harder it is to get rid of.Like suppose one day you dont want that name anymore? Sometimes they stick and people will never let you forget it!So choose the ones carefully that you plan to keep for a while cause you might not be able to shake the ones you might not be too fond of in the future. As for myself I always say...You can call me what you want as long as you dont call me late for dinner!!hehe...Michael

Oh I totally understand that. But it's been 8 or 9 years since I got it, and I'm SO used to it it's like my second name, so I know it wouldn't bother me. I have many other nicknames but this one's my favorite - I know my Dad would stop if I asked him too anyway.

And, I agree about dinner..! ;D

My brother used to call me Ribbit, like the noise a frog makes. I hated it but it persisted for 3 years until my Dad told him to cut it out. Now I don't have a nickname but I sure don't miss Ribbit.

T'aint nothing wrong with Moose - beautiful, noble, furry, magnificent creatures that could probably turn nasty if disturbed from going about their Moose-business (just like most humans do really).

I see the waitress's point in that it could be taken in an insulting way if heard out of context or didnt know the origins of the nickname.

I call DBI by lots of pet names some of which could be interpreted as insults if heard by outsiders (although I'm careful not to do that).

Oh I'd understand that too, but how many times must we tell her that I do in fact like it!

I have many nicknames for ol' Paddy too, but most of them he hates and I would never call him that in public either!
