Much to his chagrin, I just snapped this picture of "Prancing Patrick" sunning himself in our back yard.

You obviously must not live in the lower states. Or that is not a recent picture. Wherever you live, please keep the guy behind the fence and out of the public when he chooses to sun himself. For the public good.

Are you serious about this flag issue? I'd like for you to do a post on it. It would generate some intersting comments, and you would have to be thick-skinned. And I'd like to comment on it.

We live in Florida and I took the picture on Wednesday - he's my dad.

What "flag issue" are you talking about, the flag on the moon or the fact that I post them on my blog and put "heritage not hate" under them?

If I haven't read you right, then I sincerely apologize, but I feel no need to debate the Confederate flag and what it stands for. Only a true Southerner understands the true meaning of that flag (and it is not a thing to do with racism, if that's what you think of when you see it). I do not like debating controversial issues when I know where *I myself* stand on them.

Again, if I read your comment wrong then I apologize!

If this is in reguards to the moon picture, it would be awesome to have the flag on the moon but it's just a joke. I made that picture a while back and thought it was cute :)

Where can I order one?

You don't like debating controversial issues? I'd sure like to see you moderate that stance a bit. Honest debate of issues, expressed with respect and moderation, is a great learning and growing experience. I'm wrong on some issues and need to grow concerning those matters. Some things I am right about, important things, and you would do well to learn from me. Thus we benefit from one another in the context of healthy discussion. T-blog is really a great forum for such.

The flag issue: I was born in Alabama, and now live in Georgia. A true southerner, with the drawl, culture, etc. I'm drinking a glass of iced tea even as I type, and I've just returned from church. Rcently the state of Georgia altered its state flag to almost eliminate the rebel flag from it. In 1956 the rebel flag was adopted by the legislature as a statement of defiance toward the federal government for forced integration. Many, many people see it as a symbol of segregation and inequality. If someone wants to fly it as a private citizen, that's a personal matter. I guess the individual who sees it will have to form their own opinion of the statement being made. But, state-sponsored- we can do better.

By the way, just kidding about your dad's picture.

I'm sure it's a growing experience, but again, I don't want to debate something that I know the full and entire history of and know where my family and I stand on it, I hope you can understand that :)

Not only that, I created this blog for other reasons - as a diary-like place to vent and have fun, for my friends to read, and for me to catalog small (if insignificant) experiences in my life.

I realize some racist individuals have made something else out of the flag, but I fly it as a symbol of my Southern heritage and Southern pride. And you're right, whoever sees it will have to form their own opinion, but that's why I have "Heritage not Hate" on here. So people know my stance and don't get the wrong idea.

I know you were kidding about Dad, he looks hilarious doesn't he? I had to color-edit the picture - he looked way too purple.
