It's great to anyone in the southern rock community being honored with thier own site group.Just like with Skynyrd I think that their is different incarnations of Blackfoot.I would have to say that I really do admire all of his different projects except for one.I like all the Old and New Skynyrd stuff and all of the work he did with the Original Blackfoot(Jakson, Charlie and Greg). It seems after that he kind of went from southern rock to southern big hair 80's heavy metal L.A. Hollyweird with the new bands he formed and called them Rickey Medlocke and Blackfoot or Blackfoot featuring Rick Medlocke! What the hell was that! I sure am glad he snapped out of that one and returned to his roots.Dont get me wrong..I am a big fan and I know how much you love him and all but I just thought it should be recognised as Ronnie would'nt put up with any of that Hollyweird Yankee stuff that's all.I guess the 80's was a big change for everybody and with southern rock not being as popular as it once was during that time I guess a guy has to do what he had to do to support his family...I mean everybody has to eat and all that is in the past and southern rock is all the rage again.Seeing as all the new country music was basically learned from all the old southern rockers and outlaws. As usual just one guys opinion.Dont be too hard on me.It was just a momentary lapse in judgement on his part and he has returned to his senses.I am sure he is counting on people not noticing it.A lot of people dont know about those days and those albums as they were not to well known or popular at the time.I never missed a beat and was a bit dissapointed.I have been a die hard southern rock fan for many years and have followed every move the bands have made thru the years....Maybe some people liked that period of his career, but I for one did not.It was very hard to make it as a southern rock band during the 80's as the genre was fading away and maybe he did what he had to do to survive.Wow!! things sure have changed and Rickey is really back where he belongs,Staight old southern rock and roll and country blues just the way his daddy Shorty would have liked it.Again, just my opinion and I hope your not mad....Michael

When I refered to the 80's I should have said 85-95.I do believe the original Blackfoot released their last album around 1984....Michael

Oh I totally agree with ALL of that!! I have the "Rick Medlocke and Blackfoot" album... I haven't listened to the whole thing because I just can't get into it.

I love the older Blackfoot stuff - I only have a "greatest hits" album, and a couple other songs I've found online, but I'm working on it! I've got all of Skynyrd's stuff, a lot of 38's - I'm working on getting all of Blackfoot next.

LOL I'm not mad at you! I feel the same way. He just went "Hollyweird" for a bit there. "he kind of went from southern rock to southern big hair 80's heavy metal L.A. Hollyweird" HEHE awesome way to describe it!!

I agree about country music today too. Johnny himself said, if artists like Gretchen and Montgomery Gentry (two of my favorites) had come out in the '70s, they'd be considered Southern rock.

Wow,...I thought you were gonna really give it to me but I guess you are the real thing. What I mean by that is a true die hard southern rock fan knows the difference. And you do.And not sticking up for him during that period cause you thought he was cute or some other girly type thing. My hat off to ya Mal,You have gained my respect and are the real deal sister.A real rebel woman and a true southerner who knows the difference. So I guess we dont need to bring that whole issue up ever again and we forgive Rickey.I mean judging him on his works so far is like 99 to 1.I mean 99% of the time he is right on it and so what he made a small one that didn't even need to be mentioned....I guess I was trying to feel you out and kinda wanted to see where you stood on things and now I know. And Yes,Southern Rock kind of gave birth to the new country music of today and I love that you recognise that fact as well.If ya want a great place to start as far as Blackfoot goes when you further your collection,Check out the "Strikes"album which is and will always be their best effort yet(1979).This was there first major impact album as far as radio play.A lot of people thought this was thier first album, which it was with that label but they also had two previous with another label"No Reservations"(75) and "Flyin High"(76) which also have some great tunes on them. The fourth album is great too"Tomcattin".The original band had 3 more for a total of 7 and a live album in 82 for a total of 8.If you have these 8,you've got all the good ones from the original band(75-84)I know you will probably like Blackfoot Strikes the best if you are the real die hard that I know you are.I sure am dating myself by saying album...Duh,...It's CD's!!dammit.cd's cd's cd's ..I have to get with it here!!Anyway it sure has been a pleasure talkin to ya lately and reliving some of the best times ever......Michael, P.S.the other 3 studio albums were "Marauder"(81)"Siogo"(83)and "Vertical Smiles"(84).

Wow Michael.... thanks for the compliments!! Especially "A real rebel woman and a true southerner who knows the difference." I really appreciate that :D

Just to be clear, I think Rickey WAS hot at that time (LOL), but that don't mean I have to like what he did!

Yeah I'll probably get "Strikes" first. It's got some of my favorites on it, Highway Song and Train Train of course, Wishing Well, Left Turn On A Red Light, I Got A Line On You. I'll get them all in time, but thanks for the advice! "Strikes" will definitely be first.

A couple of them will probably be harder to find, but I'm sure eBay will have them. I TOTALLY forgot, I do have the Blackfoot Live album - Rick sure screamed a lot, didn't he? HEH.

LOL! Awww, hey! Actually, you can still call CDs "albums" - if you started talking like my Dad and calling them "tapes" or "records", THEN I'd worry!! ;o) But Dad's getting better with it.

It's been a pleasure for me too! :D thank you for commenting in the first place - I'm just curious, how or where did you find my blog?

You are very welcome Mal,It's all true.I was refering in the post to the 1982 live album which I believe was originally a european import and was a bit tricky to find. There were some other live albums that were released after 1984 and they were not too good...Like you said ...Lots of screaming!!.......GB...........Michael................P.S.I could'nt tell ya If Rickey was hot or not cause I dont park my car on that side of the street if you know what I mean, but, I am sure he is a handsome man if you say so.

Mine is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00004TGXB/qid=1138178111/103-2903786-6400662

I also have King Biscuit Flower Hour Live - I'd forgotten about that one too (hey, I'm tired!) because I haven't listened to it yet (I um... downloaded it ;o)

HAA! Well then, Rickey is hot. You can trust me on that.

I figured it might be DSJ! The reason I asked is that I've also had a LOT of hits from Google image searches for "Ronnie Van Zant" - a wallpaper that I posted here a few months ago is on the first page of results!

hugs,
Mal
