Petty stuff
03.31.07 (6:50 am)   [edit]
I was just on my way back to bed from using the bathroom in the middle of the night (well, 6AM - which is "the middle of the night" for me), when I figured I'd check my email real quick. PC addict? You betcha! Then, I figured I'd write myself a blog as well. I've intended to for the past couple days but keep forgetting about it. Anyway, here's another version of 10/10. Well actually, I'm gonna cut this one down and make it a 5/5 instead because I wanna get back to sleep and I'm not sure I can think of ten each right now. Haven't done one of these for a while! I'll save the good stuff for last. Here we go.

~*~

5 things I'm ticked off at:

1. The toilet is real slow lately. It either half flushed or didn't go down at all almost every time I flushed it last night. I kept angeredly yelling at it, but then I decided to try a different approach - I'd flush it and stand there giving it compliments and verbal supportive comments and gesturing madly in the air with circular arm-motions whilst shouting, "YOU CAN DO IT!!", and, "COME ON!!! SWIRL!!! SUCK IT ALL DOWN!!! GOOD VIBES!!!", and THEN it would flush!! So I've concluded that it's simply in need of a bit of moral support. (Or maybe I ate something strange)... I told this revelation of mine to Dad and he just stared at me. Hmm.

2. Early yesterday morning (or was it two mornings ago), a SILVERFISH BOUNCED OFF MY HEAD. This is now old news to some of my friends, but... but... A SILVERFISH BOUNCED OFF MY HEAD. You can't just let that go.

3. I messed up something on my old PC and now the mouse won't work. Oops. I'm now on the new one again but there's NOTHING in this computer - it's not very homey. I had to order an external drive kit and must wait until that gets here to get all my personal files out of the old PC. This all sounds familiar, doesn't it? I must be eternally cursed with computer problems or somethin'! Oh well. At least I know it still STARTS and all my files are perfectly fine and intact - there's really nothing wrong with it except for the mouse problem...

4. All the excitement and job-starting, etc, that's happened lately has made my period over two weeks late, not to mention all the loss of sleep. BUT GOOD NEWS!!! I slept fifteen hours straight yesterday (after weeks of five or less every night). MAAAAAN did that feel good!! And the hormoney-moodiness has left as well. So I suppose I should be happy then!

5. I have an ungodly amount of email and MySpace comments/messages to catch up on. It makes it daunting, which makes me want to avoid it, which of course only serves to make the problem worse because they don't stop when I stop - they continue to pile up. I just need to get into one of those geared up, "OMG GOTTA RESPOND TO EVERYTHING NOW" moods, and then we'll be good. I sure hope that happens soon!

5 things I'm stoked about:

1. DAD'S ENGAGED. .......erm, I'm not quite sure I mentioned that on the blog before? Heh. I know I posted it on MySpace, but I have nooo idea exactly who else I've told, so if you're reading this and finding this out for the first time, um... yeah, shocker ain't it? HEEE! Read the previous post about Colleen, and there ya go! :D

2. See number 1. HAPPY.

3. Dad bought me a turntable/radio/CDplayer that's all 1940s style lookin'. He got it half price in a catalog - been wanting one for so long now. I'd bought some records on our recent trip to Texas - now I can finally play 'em!! The very first thing I played on it was The Outlaws' "Ghost Riders in the Sky". I'm excited. Just got it all set up above the TV on top of my little entertainment center in here! After Ghost Riders, I put some Blues Brothers on. Heh.

4. I cleaned the shower last night. I know that kinda sounds...small...but I cleaned it really, REALLY good, so I'm feeling all accomplished 'n' stuff. I even washed the shower curtain and liner!!!... it's so much easier (and less disgusting) to wash those things with bleach in the washing machine. Works like a charm!

5. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END. I mean, I'm SO EXCITED about it. I was never this excited about the second one! Well, I did look forward to it of course, but I wasn't anticipating it as much as I am this one. OMG IT LOOKS SO AWESOME. It's like the whole story has just been holding itself back; it's all building up and coming to a head and it's about to hit this one huge climax with EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER from both the other films involved. The story looks pretty danged good. Can't wait to see Jack!! HOWWWWWWWWWL--HOT. Even Will looked hot in a couple scenes (as opposed to his usual one-expression-only wooden-ness). The new Oriental dude looks cool... of course Davy Jones is awesome... I'm really anticipating what will happen with Norrington... curious what'll happen between Will and Bootstrap Bill... look forward to seeing Keith Richards as Jack's father... and OMG BARBOSSA IS BACK. It probably sounds like I have a crush on Barbossa - I DON'T - I just really, REALLY love him. Y'all couldn't understand. When I look at him, I just see the classic image of a true pirate. The kind you read about in the history books!! He's such an awesome villain, and even with Davy Jones, I really felt like the second movie was lacking a lot without him in it. In fact one of my favorite scenes of the entire film was when he came down the steps at the end. So cool. But anyway, yeah. I guess I'll even grudgingly give props to Elizabeth, HEEE. She does look awesome and pretty kickbutt in the Chinese garb. And I wonder what will become of Governor Swann..? Oh and that Lord Beckett guy? He really needs to die. That even rhymed.

I could go on and on here. But I'll just shut up and tell you to watch the POTC3 trailer here at Yahoo! Movies. Dad thinks it's gonna be the best one yet. I think nothing can compete with the original, but we'll see. It can always be that great but in a different way than the first, if that makes sense.

Ah, I believe I'm finished. Off to bed with me, then!!!

We had a cookout tonight - partially so some of our friends could meet Colleen, and partially because it was another friend's birthday. SO WHY NOT THROW A PARTY. ....um, yeah, anyway.

I made some baked beans and was pleasantly surprised that everybody LOVED THEM. I'm not trying to be conceited or anything, I'm just....touched, I guess! I'm not used to being complimented for cooking, LOL. I was going to do it the way my grandmother does, but I wasn't sure exactly how and was too lazy to call her. I knew she used ketchup and brown sugar (funny, I'm listening to ZZ Top's "Brown Sugar" as I type this. And wow, I'm actually typing and singing at the same time... I usually can't do that with the greatest results, LOL), but I wasn't sure how much to put in it. So I went to Yahoo! Answers and asked what would be the best way to prepare two cans of Bush's baked beans, and I got a LOT of responses (7 within the first 10 minutes). So I actually ended up combining a couple of them and it turned out awesome.

I opened both cans and partially drained the watery sauce it's in and dumped (heh) it into the pot. I then added 1/4th of a cup brown sugar, 1/4th of a cup molasses, 1/4th of a cup Bull's Eye smoked BBQ sauce, 1/4th of a cup ketchup, and some spicy brown mustard (probably about a tablespoon, if that). Our friend Tom was all excited about them, both he and and his girlfriend Darlene said they were the best beans they'd ever had, and Tom had one or two extra helpings, then designated me as "the bean person". Cool.

BEHOLD! ...I am... The Bean Person.

So I just had to share my elation. I'm sure stoked ahout it. Another good sign: the beans were completely gone when everybody was done!

Big news.
03.14.07 (5:21 am)   [edit]

Well. I have huge news that happened this very evening. We've only been able to tell about six or seven people thus far but we'll call up everybody else in the next few days.

DAD'S ENGAGED!!!

He met a gal named Colleen about two or three weeks ago working at State Farm Insurance - she called him later that day and asked him out. They went out when we got home from Texas and hit it off RIGHT AWAY. She's exaaaaaaaaactly what he's been looking for for so long and they're totally in love. I'm SOOO stoked. I met her on Saturday and love her!! I'm not gonna write a huge in depth blog about her right now, but I just wanted to share the exciting news!! She's absolutely beautiful, has two kids (16 and 20), has our very same sense of humor, is SO easy to talk to and get along with, and shares many of our tastes... just, everything! Colleen, if you read this, I ADORE YOU!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for taking that step and calling my Dad. He's been so lonely the past five years, this is what he's been needing and what we've been praying for.

Seriously, every other woman he's gone out with since Mama died were just... not right. All of his dates with them, he'd come home all pessimistic-sounding and would just say something like, "Eh, it was okay." and that was it. I've met a couple of the ones he went out with and I either felt intimidated by them or just like I had to watch what I said around them and not be myself. Colleen? Nope. She's so easy-going and you just don't have to watch what you say around her, and she's not a 'little miss perfect' either, so that intimidated feeling wasn't there at ALL when I met her. And when Dad got home from his very first date with her, it was the first time on ANY date he's been on since Mom that he came home with a giant grin, telling me, "OMG it was awesome!! It went VERY well - this is very promising, you'll love her!!!" and could NOT stop talking about her.

He witnessed to her on the third date (I think it was the third) and she understood right away and is now a believer, and she even got mad that he didn't share the gospel with her on the first date. How cool is that.

I'm KNOW there are those who will think they're moving too fast. Heck, if I hadn't met her and seen the two of them together, I'd be thinking the same thing too. But no, this is one of those rare, beautiful happenings where you find that right one and it's immediately plain and clear that they're the one you've been looking for.

I won't post a picture of her on here without her permission LOL, but I will say this - she reeeally reminds me of an older version of Catherine McCormack, the girl that played Mel Gibson's wife, Murron, in Braveheart.

McCormack

To completely change the subject, guess who we saw on Monday night?! .....ZZ TOP!!! OMG!! They were SO, SO, SO COOL. I mean seriously. Not as good as Skynyrd, of course, but really - THEY ROCKED. What a FUN concert that was. It was just so... FUN! They played so many of the hits, the concert was so bright and colorful (I mean all the colored lights, it was awesome), the sounds was great (and LOUD!!), and we just had an allaround great time. Met some nice folks there, too, who were sitting next to us. I dig The Top. I took a few pictures - most are real grainy but not TOO bad. I'll post the good ones on D&D once I get them edited 'n' stuff.

Oh and one more thing: Is it normal to like the smell of lighter fluid? Hmm.
