Finally!
12.31.05 (9:43 pm)   [edit]
I'm so glad the year is over, it's been a weird one. Don't get me wrong, I've had a lot of good things happen this year. I've met some awesome people and had some fun times. However, quite a few things I'd rather forget.

Here's hoping for bigger and better things for all of us in 2006!

Better undertakings for 2006!

Happy New Year!

Obsessed...or...a little enthused?
12.28.05 (11:01 pm)   [edit]
I have exactly 150 Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. And that does NOT include all the alternate takes (for instance, there's 11 different versions of Free Bird alone).....

I'm not even gonna try to count all of them (including alternate takes and live versions). I've just ordered two more albums that I think will complete the collection, which have some very old, rare songs on them that I really like, and can't wait to have them on CD.

Now the only albums I need to get are a few more live concert recordings, and I'm all set!! THEN, I need to get all Johnny Van Zant's solo stuff, and all the Rossington-Collins Band's stuff.... and all of Blackfoot's stuff.... and all of The Outlaws' stuff.... and.... Good Lordy, I'll think about all that some other time.

While I'm on the subject, we bought my cousin the 20th Century Masters Millennium Collection for Christmas. But before I wrapped it, I slit the side of the shrink wrap open and scanned the CD insert because it has one of my absolute favorite pictures of the original band on the cover, and I could never find a decent version of this picture online anywhere for the longest time... But now it's mine, and he won't know anyway. Bwahaha.

Merry Christmas, Mama

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Mama's Song
by Gary Rossington, Hughie Thomasson, Johnny Van Zant, and Rick Medlocke

Mama used to send us early to bed on Christmas Eve
She became Santa's Helper and they took care of me
We would wake up early from our beds only to see
The love she had for all of us was left beneath the tree

One day I know we'll be together, when the Lord brings me to you
Then I know I will be in Heaven, when my eyes can rest on you
But until then I will remember, all the good times that we shared
I'll hang a star upon this tree for you
On Christmas Day I know you'll be there too

Now that I am all grown up with children of my own
I see the happiness in their eyes, somehow I wish I'd known
But not a Christmas Day goes by, that I will not see
The gift you gave to all of us was the love you gave to me

One day I know we'll be together, when the Lord brings me to you
Then I know I will be in Heaven, when my eyes can rest on you
But until then I will remember, all the good times that we shared
I'll hang a star upon this tree for you
Mama, on Christmas Day I know you'll be there too

One day I know we'll be together
Then I know I will be in Heaven
I won't have to remember, 'cause I'm standing there with you
Of a time that you and I always knew
Mama, on Christmas Day I'll finally be with you

Joy to the world, the Lord has come.

Munitions...
12.20.05 (11:27 pm)   [edit]
Here's my latest couple wallpapers. Heh. I actually learned quite a bit whilst searching for photos for these. Including the fact that the word "grenade" is derived from the Spanish granada ("pomegranate"), in reference to the general size of early grenades, and because its shrapnel pellets reminded soldiers of the seeds of this fruit.

Interesting. I also couldn't find a good photo of a 20mm cartridg e - go figure! So I scanned one of mine (I have a row of all different sized bullets and shells on the top shelf of my desk, including a few 20mm - one of which is live)...

Sinus headache and a weird dream
12.19.05 (5:10 pm)   [edit]
I'm not sick, but I have sinus pressure and it got really painful last night, so I got up around 1AM to take drugs and have some piping hot chocolate. Well the sinus stuff I took is non-drowsy, and I wasn't tired at all and was up until 6 or 7. So I caught up on sleep this afternoon and... had an interesting dream. The last part was especially nice... (Curséd be the rumbling trucks that woke me up!! They're putting sidewalks in on my street. Bastards.)

Anyway, here goes. Me and Dad are coming home from somewhere and get on an airplane (I don't know exactly how the dream started, but this is the first thing I remember). The airplane looks like a jumbo jet on the outside, but the inside is VERY old fashioned and smells like must. It's morning, so it's very pleasant outside (it looks like we're in NC or SC). Then, all the passengers are called to sit and wait outside. So we all go and sit on small concrete landscape walls that are lining the runway. They're multi-leveled, and we're sitting on one of the lower ones, so we're partly sitting in the itchy grass also.

Then they inform us that the reason we're waiting is because they had to block off the whole area around the airplane with yellow tape because somebody had fallen off a ladder or something and died (there's blood on the runway, but it looks like water to me). We get all upset because the pilots are still in the plane - why are THEY allowed to stay and not us?? Our butts are hurting and ants are crawling out of the grass, chewing on us.

I'm not sure what happened in between, but we leave the airport and decide to just drive home instead - we're sick of waiting. We stop by the Cracker Barrel in FL for breakfast (except, it's actually an old house that looks as if it's on a Revolutionary War battlefield in SC, with fog on the field and such). We eat and leave, but Dad decides to stay there and I take a friend with me to go home instead. Now I am driving, and I don't know who the friend is. I never see her but I hear her voice and know she's next to me - she's just there.

We get home and are told by some "official" looking people that Johnny and Donnie Van Zant (who are close friends of mine in the dream) have somehow gotten stuck in a cave crevis and that they've have sent a team in to go find them (I don't know WHERE this cave is, there aren't any caves in FL like that - the cave looks like it's in the Arctic), and that they will keep us informed. I totally freak out and I'm all stressed, when my gay guy-friend, who works in my house at the "bar" (?? which is actually the kitchen counter, and he's wearing a button-up coral shirt), calls me into the kitchen and says he'll make his "special drink" for me so that I'll calm down and feel better. (It's still morning by the way, the whole dream takes place in an everlasting morning, and a pretty morning it is!).

So he makes up some drink in a pretty booze glass, then he takes all these pieces of fruit and sticks them on a shish kabob, with half an avacodo on the end. He then explains that he'll take the avacodo and suction it onto the side of the glass by twisting it somehow. He then hands it to me and takes me outside to go for a "walk" while we're waiting for news (we "go for a walk" to the end of the driveway). Then he leaves me alone out there to have my drink, when.... I see a black SUV coming down the road, with Johnny driving and Donnie in the passenger seat. The "team" found them and they're all right!

I flip out and start happily crying and run towards them. Johnny slams on the breaks in front of my neighbor's house and gets out and runs towards me also, and we hug. It's a HUGE warm hug (I can feel his arms around me in the dream), and he has his face buried in my neck (you know how guys do that? Yeah....) and his hair is all in my face, and I'm just breathing his scent in. We're both in tears and I'm just so glad they're both alive and well. I remember looking over Johnny's shoulder and seeing Donnie get out of the truck and running towards me, he would have hugged me too, but..

I woke up.

Shucks. Too bad it ended there, but what a.... nice... ahem.... ending.... Yeah...

Holy crap, I baked.
12.18.05 (2:07 pm)   [edit]

I...made cookies. About 50 of them. Snowballs.
I haven't cooked, let alone baked, in a... very long time. Gosh, I've not made cookies since at least three Christmases ago. Maybe four. I think they turned out pretty darned good, considering!

---

Snowballs

INGREDIENTS:

 • 1 cup butter
 • 1/2 cup white sugar
 • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
 • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
 • 3/4 teaspoon salt
 • 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
 • 3/4 cup sifted confectioners' sugar

DIRECTIONS:

 1. Preheat oven to 325° F (165° C). Lightly butter 2 baking
sheets, or line with parchment paper.

 2. Cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Sift together the flour and salt; mix into the butter mixture.
Stir in the pecans. Dust your hands with a little of the
confectioners' sugar and roll the dough into 1 inch balls.

 3. Place 2 inches apart on the baking sheets and bake for 25
minutes or just until brown. Put on racks to cool for 15
minutes, then roll in the confectioners sugar.

---

Yeah, yeah. I know it's easy, but it's a huge undertaking for somebody like me! The only problem I had was with a giant mosquito that flew into the dough, but it flew away and wouldn't let me kill it. I'm sure any germs it left behind were cooked out...

baked balls!...er...snowballs!

Don't let the unsightly pictures fool you, they're actually very cute and taste great!

The real thing
12.13.05 (11:32 pm)   [edit]
I'm stoked, I just ordered Bo Bice's new album, The Real Thing, from Amazon.com. Not only is it Bo Bice, and I've been looking forward to this album ever since I knew who he was, but..... Rickey Medlocke co-wrote one of the songs on it!!!!! I'm not sure which song it is yet, but I can't wait to hear it. Oh, that reminds me, I read somewhere that Rickey is working on a solo album. (!!!!!). Hopefully it'll be out by the end of next year, I'm really looking forward to it, as well as Skynyrd's next album...

I still can't believe how awesome it is, that, after being in love with Rickey for almost a year, I fall for Bo Bice. THEN, during the course of American Idol, they both happen to meet each other, Bo turns out to be a huge Blackfoot/Skynyrd fan, he sings Sweet Home Alabama with Skynyrd on the A.I. finale, and co-writes a song with Rickey. Can it get any better than that?!

But anyway. Back to Bo's album. I love the album cover and the colors in it, and how his eyes are tinted green, and I love the title text, but... he just looks too clean. Or too...... something, I dunno. He should have kept that thick beard he had - that was hot, and it really complimented the long hair... I think his hair is too smooth here, that must be it.

And that's all I need. The glasses, this Bible, and the M&Ms... And these matches.
12.09.05 (3:47 pm)   [edit]
We went to see my grandparents last night, had dinner with them, and got back around 10pm. I had to pee like a horse, but I went in my room to get out of my boots and jacket and get changed real quick.

Then, when I heard Dad going into the bathroom, I panicked and yelled "NOOOOOOOOOOO, I HAVE TO PEEE!!!" And he said "Well, I HAVE TO CRAP!!!!" So I finally persuaded him to let me go first real quick, and I get in there and see ...this. He's all prepared to take a crap; he's got his glasses and Bible all set up on the counter, and........ a bag of M&Ms.

I ran and grabbed the cell phone to take a picture. Notice how he's got it all set up and ready, just preparedly sitting there on the counter. Who eats M&Ms whilst taking a dump? ....my father does.
